About Us The Zone
Biddulph Youth and Community Zone.
Biddulph Young People’s Place started as a Youth Café that operated from the Youth Centre on Friday evenings and was run by volunteers. Sometimes, up to 100 young people attended at one time. It grew significantly from its foundation in 2010 and we decided to expand on that success, by establishing a new social enterprise Biddulph Youth & Community Zone Limited (‘BYCZ’), to run the Youth and Community Centre and oversee this important project. We are a ‘community benefit society’ with charitable status and are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority
Biddulph Youth and Community Zone Limited has been set up to run as a community asset; providing various community based activities and services. Our vision is to provide a safe, warm, friendly and inclusive environment for everyone in the local community.
We hope to generate wider benefits for users, supporting them to gain confidence and learn resilience whilst acquiring beneficial skills such as communication, planning, team-working and decision making. We will be working in partnership with organisations to deliver quality support services to raise the aspirations of the community, through learning new skills and gaining confidence and therefore tackle aspiration and exclusion in an area of deprivation and disadvantage.
Our vision is to build on our success to date with our primary aims being to:
provide a safe, warm, friendly and inclusive environment for all young people, their families and the local community. The centre will provide a stable, secure and relaxed environment for local people to make use of for community based activities;
generate wider benefits for users, supporting them to gain confidence and learn resilience whilst acquiring beneficial skills such as communication, planning, team-working and decision making;
tackle aspiration and exclusion in an area of deprivation and disadvantage; and
work in partnership with organisations to deliver quality support services to raise the aspirations of the community, through learning new skills and gaining confidence.
To achieve this, we want to widen our existing activities, by becoming a community ‘hub’ with a range of family activities and events, and adult education and sports sessions, including:
Exercise classes and sports events/tournaments in the centre’s sports hall;
Family workshops on a range subjects such as healthy eating, etc. to promote family cohesion and support the building of resilient families;
Sessions for young people and parents designed to be active, informative, educational and fun for the whole family, for example, a town treasure hunt and parent and child fitness classes;
Activities for more mature members of the community, including afternoon tea sessions, bingo and ‘Silver Surfer’ internet and IT workshops; and
Classes and sessions aimed particularly at vulnerable groups, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LDD).
